Keytruda

Keytruda is a drug by Merck, used to help treat 26+ types of cancer. We were asked to design the doctor-facing website. As new indications (diagnoses) continued to be approved for treatment on a daily basis, all aspects of the website needed to be extremely scalable. We created a flexible and adaptive design system, increasing speed to market. The project was considered such a success that multiple Merck companies ended up utilizing our system as their framework.

Sprinting to usability

I was design lead on a multi-agency team to establish this system. We followed the agile method of working in sprints with multiple daily check-ins, working hand-in-hand with the client through each component.

While under strict legal regulations, we pushed creative boundaries with elements like 3d icons and gradients to give the brand visual interest, without using the generic stock images seen on so many pharma sites.

Our goal was to create a system that was beautiful, clean, and easy to quickly digest — especially for doctors on a busy schedule.

A well-oiled machine

We ordered our 60+ components into categories like global, data, content, CTA, and page templates. Each module went through rigorous review processes, first with our small agile team, and then through Merck leadership and legal channels. The continual release of components allowed for faster approvals and easier processes for the content upload team.
